Philip Garland

Philip Garland is the Vice President of Data Science & Insights at Snap Raise.

In his prior role as Vice President of Methodology at SurveyMonkey, he informed product design to ensure optimal data quality in the company’s deliverables. Garland spearheaded company-wide survey training as the organization grew from 30 to more than 250 employees during his tenure. One of the survey sampling products he architected generated more than $10 million in revenue in just two years. Using SurveyMonkey site traffic, he also led a team of researchers to correctly predict the outcome of the 2012 presidential election in 48 states and Washington DC. Prior to his tenure at SurveyMonkey, Garland was the Knowledge Director and Chief Methodologist at Survey Sampling International (SSI) where he created new sampling policies that saved the firm more than 20% of its survey incentive costs.

Garland earned an MA in political science and PhD in communication from Stanford University. He has published several papers in academic journals and two book chapters in the areas of public opinion, internet marketing, media coverage of political affairs and intergroup relations.
