Cynthia A. Martinez

Cynthia A. Martinez has over 25 years of experience as a higher education administrator, educator, and consultant, and she teaches in the Master of Communication Management program at USC Annenberg. She currently serves as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Harvey Mudd College. She previously served as Dean of Students at the Keck Graduate Institute and has held senior leadership roles at USC Annenberg, including Interim Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Executive Director of Advisement and Academic Services. As a consultant, her experience in managing and communicating change, decision-making, conflict resolution, negotiation, and counseling enables her to lead workshops and training on communication and change styles, business strategies, leadership development, and emotional intelligence. She presents at professional conferences, both domestically and internationally, and is an active member of the International Leadership Association, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, and the Academy of Management. Martinez is certified to administer the EQ-i Emotional Quotient Assessment, the Change Style Indicator, and the Global Mindset Inventory. Earlier in her career, she served as a healthcare administrator at City of Hope National Cancer Institute, managing services for cancer patients and caregivers.

Martinez earned a BS in biology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; an MEd in postsecondary administration and student affairs from USC; and a PhD in leadership studies from the University of San Diego. Her research interests include global leadership, women in leadership, student leadership development, emotional intelligence, intercultural competency models, and educational technology.
